Moretta is a typical coffee invented by local fishermen. It is said that they created the drin to warm themselves during their sails. The Moretta has a anise, rum and brandy alcoholic base (in roughly equal parts). These liquors are steam-heated in a small glass cup along with a small piece of lemon zest and a teaspoon of sugar. Then hot coffee, preferably espresso, is pured slowly into the cup, so as not to mix it with the liquor. In fact, a perfect Moretta should have three distinct layers: alcohol, espresso, crema.
